Flood-damaged goods - Hawke's Bay District Health Board Medical Officer of Health Dr Nick Jones said household items damaged by flood waters and removed from homes to the kerbside for special collection should not be touched by passers-by. "Flood waters are potentially contaminated and therefore all items that have been in contact with flood waters should be treated with caution," said Dr Jones. "Household goods damaged by floods must be disposed of if they are unable to be cleaned and disinfected thoroughly - therefore any goods that have been removed from homes during the weekend clean-up should not be rummaged through or touched by others at the kerbside."

All Napier roads now open - All Napier roads are now open. Please take extra care around Napier Hill. The team is working to re-open the May Avenue/Faraday steps, Fitzroy steps, Milton Road/ Cameron steps, Onslow-Brewster steps and the Tiffen steps.

Flood clean-up underway - The clean-up after the Napier floods is underway, with the rain easing yesterday ahead of forecast fine weather over the next few days. As at 7.30am today, 35 homes have been flagged as being uninhabitable or requiring inspection to confirm their status. Taradale Library is CLOSED - and being used as a Civil Defence Call Centre from 3pm Tuesday. Napier City Council says the library will be closed to the public until the end of the week. People cannot visit the library or return books during this period - no late return fines will be incurred). Napier Library is expected to be open Wednesday (flood event dependent).

No water contamination issues at this stage - We've had a few queries about Napier's drinking water. We've been advised by the Hawke's Bay District Health Board that there's no evidence of contamination. The water supply will be tested throughout the day and we'll update you if the situation changes. The Hawke's Bay District Health Board is keeping a close eye on the situation, and working closely with our team and Napier City Council.

Evacuation centre at Kennedy Park for those with no other options - We've set up an evacuation centre at Kennedy Park, 11 Storkey Street in Marewa for Napier residents who can't stay at home or with others.
But please only use this as a last resort. If you feel unsafe at home, self-evacuate to family and friends first.
