Wairoa - Due to limited communications we have had very limited information out of Wairoa, and we understand this is been very stressful for whānau. We are glad to say we can now provide the following updates about the Wairoa district:
We have staff from Civil Defence and NZ Defence Force on the ground in Wairoa.
We have established communication but it is still very limited.
Food, water, and fuel has been flown into the district.
New water pumps have arrived and begun water treatment for drinking water. However, people are still being advised to conserve water as much as possible.
SH2 between Wairoa and Napier is closed but crews are working hard on getting the road open to light vehicles. However, there is significant damage so this will take time. The hospital and medical centre are operating well.

Power restoration times - Update from UNISON
There has been significant damage to the Redclyffe substation, which supplies much of Napier and some of Hastings.
Unsion and Transpower have been working together to bypass the substation, this has been successfully completed this evening!
A bypass will enable power to be supplied to parts of Napier City and suburbs at some stage. They will begin progressively restoring power to parts of Napier as well as remaining parts of Hastings without power as soon as they can. Please expect this will take some time! Crews are working incredibly hard! You can check latest power outages here https://www.unison.co.nz/outages
